Sydney Sweeney to Star in ‘The Caretaker’ from ‘Hellraiser’ Director David Bruckner!

Sydney Sweeney (The Housemaid) is set to star in David Bruckner‘s (Hellraiser) The Caretaker for Universal Pictures, reports THR.
The move signals an attempt by the studio to capitalize on the mega-success of Sweeney’s The Housemaid.
Based on the novel by Marcus Kliewer (We Used to Live Here), the film “tells of a struggling young woman named Macy Mullins who answers a job posting for three days work and competitive pay (plus: serious applicants only) in the Oregon wilderness. What starts as a peculiar side gig soon becomes a waking nightmare. An incomprehensible evil may dwell on this property—and Macy Mullins might just be the only thing standing between it and the rest of humanity.”
In addition to directing, Bruckner will write the script, based on previous drafts written by Karl Gajdusek (The King’s Man) and Drew Crevello (WeCrashed).
Sweeney is producing Caretaker through her Fifty-Fifty Films alongside Michael Bay and Brad Fuller via their Platinum Dunes label. Scott Glassgold will produce through 12:01 Films.
Sweeney has blown up in the horror world as of late, having starred in the jaw-dropping Immaculate. Meanwhile, The Housemaid grossed over $400 million worldwide and has already lined up a sequel.
David Bruckner has directed numerous fantastic horror films, from The Night House to the excellent Hellraiser reboot. Dread’s EIC, Brad Miska, has worked with him on a couple of the V/H/S films as well as Southbound and knows he’s a talented filmmaker, certain to deliver a banger with The Caretaker.
The Caretaker novel hits shelves on April 21st via Simon & Schuster and Atria’s horror imprint 12:01 Books.
