‘Hokum’ Poster Trapped in a Maze of Cryptic Symbols

Damian McCarthy made a name for himself with two DIY indie hits, Caveat and Oddity, both celebrated here on Dread Central.

Now, he’s hitting the main stage with Hokum, Neon’s latest genre offering, which our very own Josh Korngut calls “gratuitously frightening hotel horrors” in his review.

A new enigmatic poster for Hokum was released today, featuring a solitary hotel bellhop framed in an elevator, surrounded by cryptic chalk-like equations and symbols that suggest hidden patterns, obsession, and psychological intrigue.

Hokum follows Scott as novelist Ohm Bauman, who retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, where he is consumed by tales of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance force him to confront dark corners of his past.

Peter Coonan (King of the Travellers), Austin Amelio (When No One Sees Us), David Wilmot (Hamnet), Will O’Connell (Game of Thrones), and Florence Ordesh (Foundation) also star.

It’s got some big names behind it, including WeaponsThe Ring, It: Chapter One+2, and Paranormal Activity producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, not to mention a cast led by Adam Scott (Hellraiser: Bloodlines).

Hokum hits theaters May 1 from NEON.
