‘The Serpent’s Skin’ Trailer – Desire Leaves a Mark in Witchy Horror from Alice Maio MacKay

Australian director Alice Maio Mackay (Satranic Panic) has quickly become one of the most exciting genre filmmakers out there. At just twenty-one years old, she has directed six (!) features. And today, you can catch the new trailer below for her latest, The Serpent’s Skin.

Described as “a supernatural queer romance thriller for lovers of “Buffy”, “Charmed”, and the early films of Gregg Araki”, the witchy trailer looks like it has everything fans of the filmmaker want. Punk horror. Romance. Loads of neon. And it’s queer AF.

Written by MacKay and frequent collaborator Benjamin Pahl Robinson, The Serpent’s Skin follows, “Twentysomething Anna as she leaves her small, transphobic hometown to start a new life in the city with her sister. She quickly finds herself face-to-face with Gen, a confident young woman she’d first seen in visions. Gen, Anna learns, has supernatural powers—powers that the two of them share. Their bond of magic and romance is threatened when Gen inadvertently unleashes a demon in Danny, Anna’s one-time fling and neighbor, and the mysterious evil begins targeting—and feeding on—everyone close to them.”

The film stars Jordan Dulieu (Everything in Between), Alexandra McVicker (“Vice Principals”) and Avalon Fast (Castration Movie).

Louise Weard (Castration Movie) Executive Produced.

In her review of The Serpent’s Skin, former Dread Central EIC Mary Beth McAndrews described the film as, “the dark, queer love story of my teenage dreams”.

Touch The Serpent’s Skin when the film opens via Dark Star Pictures in New York at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn on March 27th and in Los Angeles at the Alamo Drafthouse DTLA on April 3rd—as part of a special Fantastic Fest Presents showcase—with Mackay and special guests in attendance for opening nights.

Additional screenings with director Q&As will also include the Roxie Theater in San Francisco on April 2nd and Vidiots in Los Angeles on April 4th, with further cities and dates to be announced.
