Kevin Williamson Details Original Post-‘Scream 4’ Trilogy Plan…With Jill Roberts

Scream fans responded with excitement and appreciation for Radio Silence‘s crack at the franchise. Scream (2022) and Scream VI both received plenty of praise, with fans anxious for the third in what was a planned trilogy by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Alas, that all fell through. But it turns out, there was another idea for a post-Scream 4 trilogy that would have had fans screaming…and creator Kevin Williamson has spilled the details.
In a chat with CinePOP, Williamson revealed that original plans for a Scream trilogy following Scream 4 would’ve centered around that film’s Ghostface, Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts). But wait, didn’t she die at the end? Well…
“Scream 4 was about Emma Roberts and her character Jill. In my original conceit, Jill survived and went to college,” explains Williamson. “And in college… she got away with it all… all the killings in Scream 4… and she was now the new Sidney. The new celebrity victim. And she was loving it. And someone figured her out, and started killing all the people in her life…In order for her not to be exposed as the killer, she had to find the killer. And that was Scream 5.”
Listen, I like what Radio Silence did with Scream, but Jill Roberts is a fan favorite Ghostface. Watching her slice and dice her way through another Ghostface sounds like a killer time.
Williamson continues, “And my Scream 6 was… now that Gale Weathers is trying to build a life without Dewey… because I would’ve killed Dewey too… I had planned to kill him as well… she was trying to rebuild her life and it was about her finding love. And in a weird way, she goes through exactly the same thing Sidney went through in Scream. She’s dating a man… is he or isn’t he the killer? She doesn’t know. So it was sort of the reverse.”
Of course, we all know Dewey ended up finally meeting his end in Scream V. Sounds like the poor guy was doomed no matter what.
What surprises will the Kevin Williamson-directed Scream 7 have in store for fans? Find out when it slashes into theaters this weekend.
