‘The Mortuary Assistant’: Markiplier is “Interested to see” Movie Adaptation [Exclusive]

Markiplier’s (Mark Fischbach) Iron Lung was the reigning champ at this weekend’s box office. The self-funded project grossed an estimated $23 million against a meager $3 million budget, rendering the YouTuber’s filmmaking debut an unqualified success. He was also the star of this month’s Dread Central Cover Story, which you can check out in full here.
During the interview with Dread Central’s Josh Korngut, the digital pioneer and YouTuber juggernaut revealed his interest in the upcoming film adaptation of The Mortuary Assistant, in theaters next week from Dread and Shudder.
“It was scary. I think it was very good,” Markiplier said of the DreadXP game:
“I’m interested to see what it’s going to be as a movie. I think it’s a good concept. It’s a very enclosed space. There are a lot of good scares in the game. Even if they just replicated those in the movie, that would work really well. It’s a compelling, haunting kind of story. There’s a lot to it. And the nature of mortuaries, anyway, the embalming process. One of the cool things about the game was walking through a semi-realistic version of what you would need to do to prepare a body.”
Given that Iron Lung is an indie horror video game adaptation, we’re not surprised he’s got his eye on The Mortuary Assistant, hitting theaters February 13.
Like the rest of us, it seems Fischbach is eagerly anticipating Jeremiah Kipp’s adaptation.
The Mortuary Assistant stars Willa Holland, John Adams, Paul Sparks, and Mark Steger. Be sure to join Fischbach in theaters on February 13 when it releases nationwide.
