At this point, Ryan Coogler’s vampire movie, Sinners, is the stuff of legend. From breaking box office records to becoming the most-nominated film at the Academy Awards ever, the film has already cemented itself in horror history. Some of that is thanks to Michael B. Jordan’s brilliant performance as twins, Smoke and Stack. If you’re like us and want to know more about the suave brothers, then I have some good news, because Ryan Coogler just dropped some juicy lore.

While speaking with Proximity Media, the filmmaker (along with Jordan), revealed exactly what the duo was up to before the events of Sinners. “They killed their father, hid out at Mary’s mom’s place, then went to New York and joined the military,” said Coogler. “Went to fight in France, came back and they went back home for a little bit. Mary was older, so that was when Stack and Mary happened.”

And then tragedy struck. “It was like a three-year run where the twins had basically broken up. Smoke and Annie got their house, and Stack and Mary went to Little Rock. When [Smoke and Annie] lost their daughter was when things got rocky; they both basically left their partners and went to Chicago.”

Jordan adds, “And then that’s when you see them coming back, is at the beginning of our story”.

There you have it. Official Sinners lore!
