On tap for you today is a brand new batch of Gremlins reboot news, which we must warn you in advance is all merely rumor, at least at this point in time. That being established, read on for the latest!
Per The Tracking Board, original Gremlins writer Chris Columbus has apparently come on board to produce the reboot for Warner Bros. with Steven Spielberg also involved in some production capacity.
“It’s impossible to recreate in a CGI environment,” Columbus remarked about the project a few years back, a sentiment that has us hoping he is indeed on board. “I think it will inevitably lose some of its charm.â€
Adding to the rumors, /Film reports that the movie will be more of a sequel than a remake of the original Gremlins, this according to their sources.
Again, this is all rumor at the moment so take it with a grain of salt. Just be sure not to feed that grain of salt after the clock strikes midnight to the furry little friend you got for Christmas!
In Joe Dante’s 1984 film, a boy (Zach Galligan) inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town. The film spawned a sequel, the 1990 Gremlins 2: The New Batch, in which Gremlins take total control over the building of a media mogul.
The two films have grossed more than $190M worldwide. A sequel or a reboot has always seemed inevitable.
