Some possible news is coming in for Scott Derrickson’s adaptation of Doctor Strange for Marvel as Deadline is reporting that Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, The Darkest Hour, The Mummy reboot) is in negotiations to write the script for the franchise launching film.

Created in 1963, Doctor Strange is the story of an arrogant surgeon who is injured in a car accident and goes on to become the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel universe. Using his magical powers, Strange protects the Earth from attacks from other realms.

The first draft of the script was penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, and currently the short list of actors being pursued for the lead role includes Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, and recent Oscar winner Jared Leto.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, and Stephen Broussard are executive producing.
