New Streaming Series Based on a Disturbing Stephen King Novel Reveals First Images and Release Date

Stephen King’s output often seems well-suited for television. His work tends to be verbose, making it a challenge to adapt one of his books into a single feature film. Speaking of King on the small screen, there’s a new project in development based on the author’s 2019 novel The Institute. We’ve just learned that the program will debut on MGM+ on July 13, 2025, at 9 PM. Additionally, we have some brand-new images to share from this upcoming effort, which you can scope below!
This upcoming series adaptation boasts a talented creative team with plenty of prior experience working on King projects. Benjamin Cavell (who developed the 2020 miniseries The Stand) will script several episodes and serve as an executive producer. Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes) will direct multiple installments of the program, in addition to executive producing. Better yet, King is also on board as an executive producer.

Aside from Cavell, IMDb reveals that Sam Sheridan, Ed Redlich, Eric Dickinson, and Sophie Owens-Bender each take one or more writing credits on this upcoming project.
The setup for this upcoming King adaptation goes like this:
The plot centers around Luke Ellis, whose parents are murdered in the middle of the night by intruders. Luke wakes up at The Institute in a room that looks just like his own, except there’s no window. Outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents, such as telekinesis and telepathy, who got there the same way Luke did.
Joe Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Barnes, Julian Richings, and Simone Miller are all set to appear in the program.
In short, you’ll be able to check out The Institute with an MGM+ subscription beginning July 13. With a talented creative team and King’s involvement as an executive producer, there is a high probability that this series will resonate with fans.
