Sink Your Teeth Into Horror on the High Seas in the ‘Dangerous Animals’ Trailer!

Hassie Harrison in the new horror thriller Dangerous Animals

Serial killers and sharks are two cinematic staples that horror fans can’t seem to get enough of. But they’ve never been mashed together. Until now, that is. Director Sean Byrne’s new film, Dangerous Animals, features both. It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for someone to pair the two. If one is good, both are almost certainly even better, right? And judging by the newly released trailer, this juxtaposition of menacing creatures may be one we’ll be talking about for a while. At the very least, Dangerous Animals is likely to serve up a grisly good time for anyone who fancies the idea of a shark-obsessed serial killer.

The Plot Crunch for Dangerous Animals Goes Like This:

When Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below.

Rather than listening to our take on why this one has the potential to break out in a big way, why don’t you scope the trailer and make up your own mind?

Director Byrne will likely be familiar to horror fans as the director of The Loved Ones and The Devil’s Candy. Byrne helms Dangerous Animals from a screenplay by newcomer Nick Lepard. You may not have heard of Lepard yet, but that’s about to change. Not only did he write Dangerous Animals, but his other credit is writing Keeper in a collaboration with celebrated director Oz Perkins. All signs seem to suggest that Lepard is a fledgling talent with whom we’re all likely to be familiar before long.

The picture’s small core case is comprised of Jai Courtney (American Primeval) as Tucker, a shark-loving serial murderer, and Hassie Harrison (Southbound) as Zephyr, the unsuspecting surfer who finds herself in said killer’s clutches. Josh Heuston takes third billing and, judging by the trailer, seems to play either a love interest or a friend of Zephyr’s.

Dangerous Animals is slated to debut as part of the upcoming Directors’ Fortnight segment at Cannes. It then comes exclusively to theaters on June 6, 2025.
