This Oscar-Nominated Denzel Washington Thriller Is Now Streaming on Paramount+
Are you in the mood to stream an Oscar-nominated dramatic thriller starring Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington? If you answered yes, I’ve got you covered, dear reader. The film in question is Robert Zemeckis’ 2012 tale of a troubled airline pilot, Flight. Zemeckis helmed from a script penned by John Gatins (Real Steel).
Flight was nominated for two Oscars in 2013. The Academy nominated Washington for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Gatins for Best Original Screenplay.

Commercial airline pilot Whip Whitaker (Washington) has a problem with drugs and alcohol, though so far he’s managed to complete his flights safely. His luck runs out when a disastrous mechanical malfunction sends his plane hurtling toward the ground. Whip pulls off a miraculous crash-landing that results in only six lives lost. Shaken to the core, Whip vows to get sober. But when the crash investigation exposes his addiction, he finds himself in an even worse situation.
Upon release, the film was met with mostly positive reactions from critics and movie lovers. In fact, Flight is ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a critical approval rating of 77%. The picture’s critical consensus reads: “Robert Zemeckis makes a triumphant return to live-action cinema with Flight, a thoughtful and provocative character study propelled by a compelling performance from Denzel Washington.”
Screenwriter John Gatins previously revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that the harrowing crash depicted in the film is loosely inspired by the fatal crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261, which made headlines in 2000. Other narrative elements, however, are entirely fictional.
Flight grossed $161,772,375 at the global box office against an estimated budget of $31 million.
In addition to Washington, the film also features appearances by Nadine Velazquez, Don Cheadle, John Goodman, Bruce Greenwood, Melissa Leo, and Kelly Reilly.
