Quentin Tarantino Produced this Brutal and Outrageous Horror Movie; It’s Now Free-to-Stream!

For my money, the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature Grindhouse is one of the coolest concepts in modern cinema. The project sees two talented directors at the top of their game coming together to create a double bill that’s nothing less than epic. Rodriquez and Tarantino have recaptured the energy and spirit of the exploitation era and packaged it for modern audiences.

Unfortunately, the joint venture did not resonate with moviegoers upon release. But one simply cannot judge the merit of an experimental project solely on the box office returns. Both films are great fun and should be experienced by anyone who enjoys exploitation fare.

If you are looking to revisit Rodriguez’s contribution to the double bill, you can find Planet Terror streaming on Tubi as of the publication of this post.

In addition to sitting at the helm, Rodriguez also takes the sole screenwriting credit for Planet Terror. His frequent collaborator and co-pilot on the project Quentin Tarantino worked as a producer on this undeniably fun zombie picture that delivers viscera and bad taste in spades.

A match made in cinema heaven (or hell)

According to a Fangoria.Com interview lost during the period where the brand changed hands, actress Marley Shelton said the directorial duo was heavily involved with both films, not just their own. She revealed that it was almost as if they co-directed each picture. That sounds like a creative partnership for the history books. I sure hope the two find the occasion to collaborate again soon.

Planet Terror is a zany effort that benefits from a terrific core (and supporting) cast. Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodríguez, Josh Brolin, Marley Shelton, Jeff Fahey, and Michael Biehn star. Tom Savini, Bruce Willis, Fergie, and even Tarantino are featured in supporting roles.

One of my favorite aspects of this campy zombie picture is that the entire cast clearly understands the assignment. Everyone appears to be having a terrific time leaning into the ridiculous subject matter with aplomb.

The setup for Planet Terror goes like this:

After an experimental bio-weapon is released, turning thousands into zombie-like creatures, it’s up to a rag-tag group of survivors to stop the infected and those behind its release.

That’s all we’ve got for now. Stay tuned to the site for more updates on which of your favorite genre films are available to stream and where to find them! Also, if you aren’t following @DreadCentral on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, fix that so you never miss another update.
