HollyShorts Film Festival Announces Horror Shorts Line-up [Exclusive]

This year, over fifty short films will be competing for the Best Horror accolade at the 20th HollyShorts Film Festival. Since its establishment in 2005, HollyShorts has grown into one of the world’s leading short film festivals, championing short-form filmmaking in its many diverse forms and genres.

The award for Best Horror will be presented by classic horror icon Adrienne Barbeau, known for her appearances in John Carpenter’s The Fog, Escape from New York, Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing, and George A. Romero’s Creepshow.

Highlights include Annie Marie Elliot’s cult-based horror “Agonist” starring Peyton List; Richard J. Bosner’s “Devotee” featuring Mackenzie Firgens; “Stains” from director Joseph Burch; Jacob Hamblin’s gothic horror “Till Death Do Us Part”; A.K. Espada’s “I Could Just Die, and That Would Be All Right”; “A Fermenting Woman” from first-time director Priscilla Galvez; the dystopian animation “Corn”; and the British body horror “Spoor” from directing duo Sunita Soliar and Statten Roeg.

Other notable films to look out for include Maia Scalia’s school-shooter thriller “His Mother” with a standout performance from Bethany Anne Lind; folk horror “The Thaw” from directors Sarah Wisner and Sean Temple; comedy horror “RAT!” written, directed and starring Neal Suresh Mulani; Edith Jorish’s “Mothers & Monsters” starring Mylène Mackay; Sean Carter’s “Wake”; and Stefan Dezil’s “Weight” starring Gabrielle Walsh.

HollyShorts is devoted to showcasing the best and brightest short films from around the globe, advancing the careers of filmmakers through screenings, networking events, and various panels and forums. The festival showcases the top short films produced in 40 minutes or less.

This year’s hybrid celebration of short films will take place in person, with screenings at the world-renowned TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and virtually through the official festival streaming platform, BITPIX.

HollyShorts screenings will take place from August 8-18th at TCL Chinese Theatres, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., 3rd Level, Hollywood, CA, 90028, followed by the annual awards gala on August 18.
