The #1 Netflix True Crime Series Is So Good, It’s Scary: “Left me speechless”
We’ve all had bad roommates before. Maybe they don’t do the dishes when they’re supposed to. Maybe they’re always having weird visitors at all hours of the night. Maybe (true story) they have violent night terrors and bouts of sleepwalking, and you spend your Freshman year of college convinced your roommate is going to murder you in your sleep. Well, that does happen, unfortunately, and Netflix has assembled an entire documentary series around just that. Worst Roommate Ever, which just premiered its second season, is currently the most-watched television series on the streaming service.
Per Netflix: In this creepy true crime docuseries, people recall stories about living situations gone wrong.
What’s most remarkable is how fluidly Worst Roommate Ever combines traditional live-action filmmaking with periodic beats of animated recreations. While not every episode is about violent cohabitants, the most frightening episodes are. Things get dark pretty quickly on the Netflix shocker, but to its credit, it’s not nearly as exploitative as some of their other true crime offerings.
It can be pretty heavy stuff, however, veering from morbid interest to tragedy in a way that might disturb some viewers. Still, it’s liable to make you grateful for whatever terrible roommates you might currently have. Their cat might be tearing up your couch, but at least the two of them aren’t in cahoots to kill you. Hopefully…
Viewers have been thrilled with the series, no doubt accounting for its place atop the Netflix charts.

The Netflix hit isn’t for the faint of heart (or the easily frustrated). As a genre, true crime often trades in that kind of inevitability. You know it’s going to end badly, and it’s both tragic and frustrating to see the machinations as they unfold.
