Mutant To Release Exclusive ‘Zombi’ Vinyl at Texas Frightmare Weekend

Earlier this year, Spectrevision announced the launch of Mutant, their own brand of art and collectibles which was made up of former Mondo employees who were laid off by Funko in 2023. Now, Mutant is poised to make their first convention appearance at Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas-Ft. Worth! The convention runs from May 17 to May 19 and the Mutant team will be there selling their Texas Frightmare Weekend exclusive vinyl release, the soundtrack to Zombi!

Zombi is Dario Argento‘s cut of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Argento re-cut the film and, of course, had Goblin create an original score for his edit. This film marked the third collaboration between the director and the band, having previously worked together on Deep Red and Suspiria.

Mutant’s release of the score features clear and red splatter vinyl with art by Greg Ruth and interactive packaging. There’s an abandoned mall gatefold image that’s the perfect backdrop for creating your own zombie apocalypse with the included zombie cut-outs insert. The Zombi vinyl will be available at the Mutant booth (Booth # 111) from 5/17 – 5/20.  Any remaining after the convention will go on sale online at madebymutant.com at a later date.

Spencer Hickman, co-founder of Mutant, said of the release,

“We’re stoked to be bringing a super limited vinyl edition of Zombi, Dario Argento’s Italian cut of Dawn of the Dead pressed exclusively for Texas Frightmare Weekend on clear and red splatter vinyl. Legendary amongst horror fans, Zombi dispenses with some of the comedy and character study of George A. Romero’s classic and delivers a more serious and gritty tone while keeping Romero’s vision intact. Argento also jettisoned the library music score Romero had in favor for his favorite collaborator Goblin.

The result is a progressive horror masterpiece full of pulsating synths and wild percussion presented here with remastered audio taken from the Cinevox archives. The package is rounded out by new artwork by Greg Ruth that features a gatefold image of a ghostly abandoned mall and an insert of zombies to cut out and place where you want! Fun for all the family!”
