Overlooked Stephen King Movie Is Finally Streaming on Prime Video

Stephen King

Stephen King has surely had more of his works adapted for the screen than any other living author. The list of films and series based on King tomes is staggering. Not every incarnation of the author’s work is a success. But the effective adaptations certainly outnumber the ineffective attempts to bring his work to the screen. On that note, we are pleased to report that one of the most celebrated adaptations of the writer’s work is now available to stream on Prime Video. I’m talking about The Dead Zone.

It should come as no surprise that this adaptation proved a success. We have iconic director David Cronenberg adapting iconic author Stephen King. And did I mention that The Lost Boys and Innerspace scribe Jeffrey Boam wrote the script? With a creative team like that, it’s no wonder The Dead Zone remains one of the most beloved screen renderings of a King tome.

The Dead Zone features a rather impressive cast of characters that includes the likes of Christopher Walken, Brooke Adams, Tom Skerritt, Herbert Lom, and Martin Sheen.

The setup goes like this: When Johnny Smith (Walken) awakens from a coma caused by a car accident, he finds that years have passed, and he now has psychic abilities. Heartbroken that his girlfriend (Adams) has moved on with her life, Johnny also must contend with his unsettling powers, which allow him to see a person’s future with a mere touch. After shaking the hand of aspiring politician Greg Stillson (Sheen), Johnny sees the danger presented by the candidate’s rise and resolves to kill him.

That’s all we’ve got for the time being. Stay tuned to the site for more updates on what’s streaming and where in the near future. And be sure to follow @DreadCentral on Twitter so you never miss an update.
