AFM 2013: Raven Banner Scoops Up Odd Thomas for Up NorthOur friends up north in Canada are gonna become really close with Odd Thomas as Raven Banner Entertainment has swooped in and nabbed the Canadian rights! Read on for details.

From the Press Release
Hot Off The AFM Presses: Raven Banner Entertainment, Inc., has acquired all Canadian rights to the $30 million action thriller Odd Thomas, based on the original, critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling series by Dean Koontz under the same name.

The film was written and directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy franchise, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Van Helsing) and stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness), Willem Dafoe (John Carter), Addison Timlin (“Californication”), and Patton Oswalt (Big Fan). The film was produced by Sommers, John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan.

Raven Banner is set to release Odd Thomas in early 2014 through its Sinister Cinema series with partners Cineplex Entertainment.

“We’re excited to be releasing Odd Thomas in Canada,” states Michael Paszt, Raven Banner Managing Partner. “The collaboration between director Stephen Sommers and author Dean Koontz has turned a successful novel series into a thrill-ride of a feature film.”

The deal was negotiated by Raven Banner’s managing partners Michael Paszt and James Fler, and Paul Hudson on behalf of the filmmakers.

Odd Thomas tells the story of a short-order cook (Yelchin) with clairvoyant abilities. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it’s a curse, Odd has never been sure. But he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice and he finds himself helping police solve a crime. Occasionally, they prevent one. One day, however, a mysterious man comes to town with a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world’s worst killers and a pack of hyena-like shades follows him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can tell him. What happens next is a mysterious battle between light and darkness.

Odd Thomas is the first in a series of seven books, six of which have already been released: Odd Thomas, Forever Odd, Brother Odd, Odd Interlude, Odd Apocalypse, and Deeply Odd.
