Director Mike Flanagan Praises Emotional Free-To-Stream Thriller: “I had barely finished wiping my tears”

Mike Flanagan Recommends A Dark Song

Powerhouse director Mike Flanagan first came on my radar with his indie chiller Absentia. And he has been blowing me away with each subsequent effort since. The gifted filmmaker has a profound understanding of how to craft terror, so it’s no surprise that his recommendations tend to be consistently reliable. Accordingly, we are always quick to share them as we discover them.

During Covid lockdown, Flanagan took the time to curate a killer list of cinematic suggestions for the Rotten Tomatoes blog. Amongst the featured selections is Liam Gavin’s A Dark Song.

Mike Flanagan describes the film as follows: Liam Gavin’s horrific descent through one woman’s hell, toward the possibility of forgiveness, is in a class all its own. What starts as a supernatural revenge fantasy quickly becomes something else entirely: an exploration of the horrors of grief and rage, anchored by Catherine Walker’s devastating performance. Like Cargo, I had barely finished wiping my tears as I tried to track down Liam to offer him some episodes of Bly Manor (he directed two).

If you have yet to watch A Dark Song and are curious to give the flick a shot, you can find it streaming for free (with ads) on Tubi, as of the publication of this post.

The setup goes like this: A determined young woman and a damaged occultist risk their lives and souls to perform a dangerous ritual that will grant them what they want.

That’s all we’ve got for you at the moment. But stay tuned to the site for more recommendations from the masters as we uncover them. And be sure to follow @DreadCentral on Twitter so you never miss an update.
