‘Oppenheimer’ Director Christopher Nolan Praises New Streaming Series: ‘It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen”

Christopher Nolan on The Curse

Christopher Nolan is a filmmaker known for making heavy movies like Memento and Oppenheimer. He was also responsible for directing the The Dark Knight Trilogy, which was the last time many of us were able to enjoy the hero before Ben Affleck happened to the Batman legacy. So, of course, we were caught off guard when he mentioned he was enjoying The Curse

According to IndieWire, while moderating a Q&A with Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder, Nolan took time to praise their series. He called it “an incredible show” and said. “It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen on television before.”

The Christopher Nolan compliment train didn’t stop there, though. He even compared the Showtime series to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The director explained, “There are so few shows that come along that have genuinely no precedence,” he said. “You’re going back to things like Twin Peaks, or The Prisoner, or Dennis Potter’s Singing Detective and things like that, so you’re in an amazing space, and I can’t wait to catch up with the climax.” –  IndieWire

For those of you not as cool as the Oscar-nominated filmmaker, let’s familiarize you with this 2023 Showtime Original series. The Curse stars Oscar® winner Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder, and Benny Safdie. It was created by Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder. The first season began airing on November 10th on the now-defunct Showtime app.

Per the synopsis,

The Curse centers on Whitney and Asher Siegel, a newlywed couple struggling to bring their vision for eco-conscious housing to the small community of Española, New Mexico. But, their efforts are complicated when an eccentrically flawed reality TV producer, Dougie, sees an opportunity in their story. As the series unfolds, the couple find themselves caught in a mysterious web of ethical and moral gray zones – all while trying to keep their relationship afloat.

The Curse was co-produced by Showtime and A24. The complete first season is now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
