Five Things You Need to Know About The Walking Dead Season 4

The Season 4 premiere of “The Walking Dead” is so close you can almost smell it… P.U. those zombies stink! To take your minds off the wait, and the stench, here are five things you need to know straight from some of the key cast and crew members.
TV Guide visited the show’s Georgia set recently, and below are the highlights. Hit the link at the bottom of the page for more.
– When the show resumes, a few months after the events of last March’s finale, Rick will have “relinquished leadership and denounced brutality because he has responsibilities much closer to home that he needs to address,” said series star Andrew Lincoln. “Farmer Rick’s” duties include working in the fields as well as refocusing his attention on raising his son, Carl (Chandler Riggs), who has rapidly morphed into a child soldier.
– The former residents of Woodbury have been welcomed inside the prison and have even formed a governmental committee to ensure their lasting safety. However… “There are threats from within and without, all descending upon them at the same time,” says executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. “Our characters respond in different ways. Some rise to the occasion, while it brings out the worst in others.”
– Speaking of the worst, when might we be seeing the Governor again? His whereabouts will be revealed in two flashback episodes later this season. Also, while Danai Gurira doesn’t offer any specifics of course, she does say of her character, “[Michonne has] some unfinished business that she needs to confront.” And Lincoln adds, “We’re going to meet again, and there will be blood, as they say.”
– “The theme for the season is ‘Are we too far gone?'” says executive producer Scott Gimple. “‘Can we go back to the people we were?'” Lincoln elaborates, “It’s not as kinetic or action packed — it’s a much quieter season and very much more about the character development… We’ve still got some insane action sequences, but they’re being driven a lot more by story.”
– But horror fans needn’t worry about them skimping on the gore. The heart of the show remains the horrific violence wrought by zombies. In fact, in response to a sequence in the season premiere, AMC sent its first-ever note regarding exactly that. “It was a very respectful, light-touch conversation, and they were supercool in the end, but there was an hour or two of total tension,” Gimple says. “It’s the [episode] I directed, so you would expect there to be some cool stuff,” executive producer and special-makeup-effects supervisor Nicotero explains, “but it’s almost like, ‘Have we gone too far?'”
“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Sunday, October 13th, at 9/8c with Episode 4.01, “30 Days Without an Accident,” written by Scott Gimple and directed by Greg Nicotero.
In the highly anticipated new season, we find Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the group fostering a thriving community in the safe haven of the prison. Sadly, in this brutal world, happiness is short-lived and walkers and outside threats are no match for danger brewing inside the fences. The group’s home and new way of life will be thoroughly tested, and their struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 4 also introduces several new characters including Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr., “The Wire”).
