Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!
Glad you’re here for your Daily Dose! Our indie horror today is Erebos, named after the spaceship of which the game takes place. It’s a sort of point and click adventure game by indie dev Steam Knight for one of the many many game jams itch.io had over the summer. From what I understand from their comments on itch, this is the first game they’ve ever done to completion, and this title is certainly a great way to kick off their indie game career.
Erebos begins with the protagonist prematurely waking up from cryo sleep while in deep space. As you explore the interior of the ship, you soon learn that something horrific has occurred to every crewmember but yourself. As the lone survivor, you must figure out how best to deal with the disturbing situation, and with six different endings, your choices can have a major impact for the universe within this game.
Fans of Alien and Dead Space will certainly love Erebos, seeing as it’s basically the same premise. But hey, why reinvent the wheel. Practicing art involves imitation of one’s favorite artists, and Steam Knight chose a classic. With fantastic pacing, storytelling, and atmosphere, Erebos is still a thrilling horror experience.
The game takes around 30 minutes to get all the good endings, which you’ll probably want to do. You can try out Erebos for free on itch.io by clicking here.
