Dying Light’s New Hellraid DLC Brings a Canceled Game to Life

It’s kind of shocking that, in 2020, Techland is still making DLC and updating Dying Light, which launched back in 2015. However, they are, even with the sequel set to come out soon. The latest DLC, Hellraid is probably the most interesting and unique for both in-game and out-of-game reasons.

Hellraid starts with the residents of The Tower finding an arcade machine in the basement that they’re all pretty sure wasn’t there before. Go to interact with it and something weird happens: you get sucked into a portal to Hell. Ok, so less weird and more wild. You’ll now need to escape from hell, using melee weapons to kill skeletons and demons along the way. Survive, and you can escape with some rad swords, axes, and full suits of armor. Also, bring a friend with you, it’s a fun time. Also, the fun won’t stop anytime soon, as Techland has promised they’ll be supporting Hellraid with more free content in the future.

What really makes Hellraid interesting though is that the expansion is based on a game of the same name that was ultimately put on indefinite hold. The original Hellraid was supposed to be released in 2015 and was going to be a full first-person combat game. However, the project got delayed several times, and ultimately was put on the back-burner. This DLC makes use of the assets that were created already, taking them and turning them into a small expansion for those who were excited to play the game to still have something.

If Hellraid sounds like your jam then you can grab it on Steam here. It’ll be out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One tomorrow.
