Saturnalia is a Trippy Horror Game Based on an Old Roman Festival

I don’t know too much about old Roman holidays. I am, however, more than happy to learn. It seems like Saturnalia is a festival that served like a proto version of Christmas. It’s also the festival that Saturnalia is based on. It turns out it makes for a super trippy horror game.

The game puts you in the role of a group of people on an island which is currently in the middle of said festival. The problem? Well the festival goers don’t quite like outsiders in their town, and now they’re attempting to do a bit of murder. In a rather interesting system, your lives will take the form of the characters visiting. Should a character die, they’re dead for good and you’ll just move on to the next character on the list. If they all die? That’s when the story ends.

Also, the game is great to look at. The characters seem to have little jumps in their animation that make for something unique to look at. There’s also this lovely watercolor look for the environment and the characters themselves. Some great use of color really makes everything stand out.

Saturnalia is set to come out on PC this year. You can add the game to your wishlist on the Epic Games Store.
