The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Sets The Stage For The Zombie Apocalypse In New Podcast Series

I always love a good rabbit hole. And oh, what a rabbit hole podcasts are. It seems there are limitless ways to spend countless hours listening to dubiously credible—but very soothing—claims of paranormal events and encounters. I’m okay with the “real” ones like Astonishing Legends, and can overcome my innate desire to roll my eyes and sigh at some of the more ridiculous claims. What I really love are the fictional series. Homecoming, Video Palace, Welcome to Night Vale, all fantastic ways to shorten your long trips and whittle away the nighttime hours. There’s something about the format that just makes me feel like a detective, pouring over audio logs to uncover some deep and terrifying secret. Even with no budget, these stories can make me suspend my disbelief and become invested in a way few movies or shows can.

Well, the people over at Skydance have heard my very specific cries for more audio content. Released today, the Supernatural Skeptics Guide to New Orleans serves to set the stage for the events of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. The series follows Sarah Bennet, an intrepid young podcaster who makes her mark by debunking claims of the paranormal in one of America’s most haunted cities. We join Sarah as she conducts a special live investigation of the LaRouche House. Legends state that the manor is haunted by the ghost of a sadistic slave owner, and his spirit led the Brill family to murder dozens of innocent victims. Seriously, with the number of murder ghosts demanding ritual sacrifice in New Orleans, it’s a wonder there’s anyone left to clean all the pee off the streets.

As she conducts the investigation, things quickly go from bad to much, much worse. Her equipment breaks, the city gets flooded by a hurricane, all the dead come back to life, and all of the bars close! That’s how you know shits real fucked in The Big Easy. I know that by now we’ve heard a different retelling of the zombie apocalypse from every perspective imaginable, but this one is good. The voice work by Mara Junot is top-notch. Fans of The Walking Dead Telltale series will recognize her voice, as she previously played Christa in Seasons 1 & 2. You can check out the video above to hear more about her thoughts and feelings returning to the world, and working on Saints & Sinners.

The Supernatural Skeptics Guide to New Orleans is only 10 episodes long, each between 5-8 minutes. You can get through the thing in an afternoon, but it’s worth your time. I have no idea if Sarah will play a role in the larger game, but I wouldn’t doubt it. Most likely she’ll serve as some kind of quest giver or narrator, as the game itself follows the ZombieU approach of cycling through protagonists as they die. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is launching January 23rd for PC VR devices. Currently announced with compatibility for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Valve Index, there’s still no word on the game’s price. If you want to know more, you can check out the Steam Store Page for more details.
