It’s been a couple years now since we’ve heard a single peep about Oren Peli’s found footage alien flick Area 51, which back in 2011 was being filmed and seemed to be coming along just fine.

And then… nothing.

Though Peli has produced and been involved with several genre projects since we last had anything to report about Area 51, he has yet to direct another film, and fans have been wondering what the hell ever happened to his much anticipated follow-up to the mega successful Paranormal Activity.

In a recent interview with website We Got This Covered, producer Jason Blum confirmed that Area 51 has in fact been completely shot. So what’s the hold-up? He says that Peli likes to tinker with his films long after the cameras have stopped rolling and that the post-production process is taking a bit longer than expected. “Hopefully one day we’ll both see the finished version!” said Blum.

I think we’ve waited long enough, Oren!

Area 51 stars Reid Warner, Darrin Bragg, and Ben Rovner.

The film employs the “found footage” narrative structure that Peli used in Paranormal Activity to tell the story of three teens whose curiosity leads them to the notorious Area 51 portion of Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert. Of course all manner of shit-your-pants type spookiness ensues.
