‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ Reimagines Disney’s Mascot As A Vicious Killer
New titles enter the public domain every year and allow creatives to have fun with well-known titles. So, it was only a matter of time before Mickey Mouse himself followed in the footsteps of Pooh. That is Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey if you weren’t paying attention last year. 2024 will see the release of Mickey’s Mouse Trap, a horror movie based on Steamboat Willie.
For the uninitiated, Steamboat Willie is an 8-minute musical comedy from 1928 featuring the most famous animated mouse in the world. It is currently available on Disney+ if you want to check out the original before heading to the theater.

While we do not know much about the upcoming Mickey’s Mouse Trap. However, we think it is safe to say that Mickey does not seem to have a song in his heart as he pulverizes his victims.
In the film,
“It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.”

Mickey’s Mouse Trap is directed by Jamie Bailey and written by Simon Phillips. It is inspired by Steamboat Willie, written and directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The adaptation stars Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek and Simon Phillips.
When asked about the project, director Jamie Bailey explained, “We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean it’s Steamboat Willie‘s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it, and I think it shows”

We are still awaiting a release date to see this mouse massacre. However, the team behind it assures us we should expect it by March 2024.
