This Holiday Classic Is The #1 Horror Movie on Max: “A perfect film”
The 1980s were possibly the best decade for holiday films. That era produced countless classics like Scrooged, Ernest Saves Christmas, and Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out! Is it any wonder movies from that nostalgia-filled era are the ones horror fans reach for first every December? However, very few titles from this overpopulated subgenre get the internet as excited as Gremlins. The furry favorite is currently the #1 horror movie on Max (formerly HBOMax). Allow me to give you a refresher on this chaotically cute little tale.
In the film,
“A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the `mogwai’ but sells it to him with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins that decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve.”
Gremlins was directed by Joe Dante. The script was written by Chris Columbus. The movie stars Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Frances Lee McCain, and Polly Holliday.
Many fans took to Twitter to share their love and nostalgia for the movie. But, they also shared how scarred they were (and still are) about Phoebe Cates’ harrowing tale about her father dying on Christmas. Sure, the creature chaos may be at the film’s forefront, but her monologue about hating the holiday is enough to make you give chimneys the side eye.
See what Twitter is saying:
If you really want to spend more time in this world, Max also has Gremlins 2: The New Batch. So you could have yourself a very furry Christmas this year.
Are you one of the millions of people who believe Gremlins is the pinnacle of 1980s Christmas horror comedy? Or do you think there is another movie more deserving of that title? Let me know either way at @misssharai because I am nosey.
