If you’re a fan of David Fincher and The Smiths then Netflix has the perfect movie for you. You are also not alone because this new title shot to the #1 spot globally fast enough to give us whiplash. The film people are obsessed with this week is The Killer. Allow me to introduce you to your new favorite hitman.

In the latest from David Fincher:

After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.

Check out the official trailer and get a taste of Michael Fassbender’s performance as the titular killer:

The Killer is directed by Fincher, the man behind films such as Se7en, Zodiac, and Fight Club. The screenplay was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, who previously collaborated with Fincher on the dark serial killer film Se7en. It is inspired by the French graphic novel of the same name by Alexis “Matz” Nolent and artist Luc Jacamon.

The film stars Michael Fassbender (ShamePrometheus), Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Arliss Howard (Full Metal JacketThe Time Traveler’s Wife), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About KevinSuspiria), Sala Baker (Bullet Train, Deadpool 2), Kerry O’Malley (NYPD BlueBoardwalk Empire), and Sophie Charlotte (Dark DaysMalhação).

Most of Twitter is calling it one of David Fincher’s best movies. Many are saying it is also their favorite film of the year. Plus, there are already early calls for Fassbender to get an Oscar nom for his performance.

While I cannot disagree with the internet this time, I feel we’re not discussing the soundtrack nearly enough. I wasn’t there for the 80s, but I know that The Smiths songs used throughout the film probably cost more than my entire life. Plus each one is a bop.
