It’s a miracle that this new horror movie is already streaming on Max (formerly HBOMax) in time for the Halloween season. Not only is it a new installment in a popular franchise, but it’s also our second time to see an Akela Cooper-penned project in 2023, a year that seemingly belongs to her. The Nun II is the #1 film on the charts today. You won’t need divine intervention to help you learn more about the title because I have some heavenly notes for you.

“1956 — France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.”

The Nun II was directed by Michael Chaves. It was written by Akela Cooper, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing. The film stars Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, and Bonnie Aarons.

The internet is clearly losing it over this movie hitting streamers so soon after premiering in theaters. Many are using it as a reason to rewatch The Nun and make a cute little double feature this Halloween week.

THE NUN II: A psychic nun tries to prevent a demon, in the body of her friend, from acquiring a holy relic. Both more polished and less memorably over-the-top as the first, and the scariest part is arguably the ending credits, but Farmiga is great. Grade = C.
