“It’s f****** great” — Ridley Scott Weighs In On the New ‘Alien’ Film

While we’ve been anxious to hear updates about Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus, he was experiencing different stress. The director showed Ridley Scott the film and waited to hear first impressions. I died just writing that, so I cannot imagine what that felt like.

Aside from being a respected filmmaker, Scott directed the first Alien movie that starred Sigourney Weaver. It remains the favorite of the series even after 44 years, 7 sequels/spin-offs, and a web series. Scott also serves as a producer on Alien: Romulus. So, Álvarez was understandably anxious to hear his thoughts on the film.

“I wanted him to see it before anybody,” Álvarez said. “And everyone gave me the head’s up that Ridley is really tough. He’s really tough, particularly if it has something to do with his movies. He was really tough on Blade Runner [2049], which I thought was a masterpiece, and he had issues with it because it’s really hard for him because it’s his work. I asked him about the new Top Gun and he’s like ‘Meh.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he was like, ‘My brother’s was original and this is like eh.’ He really respected it, but you could see how tough he was. So I was like, ‘There’s no way I win this one.’” – Variety

However, it seems the new film got the seal of approval from Scott. Which makes all of us sci-fi horror nerds happy. Álvarez shared, “And then he walks into the room and he did say, ‘Fede, what can I say? It’s f****** great,’” – Variety

'Alien' Ridley Scott

Alien: Romulus is directed by Fede Álvarez. The script was written by Fede Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues. It’s based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. The cast features Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (Rosaline), Spike Fearn (The Batman) and Aileen Wu (Away From Home).

While details about the movie are still being kept under wraps, we know that it’s scheduled to release on August 16, 2024. I will be seated on that night, so don’t bother looking for me. Let me know if you’re excited to see what Fede Álvarez does in space at @misssharai.
