Quentin Tarantino is a filmmaker with a lot of opinions about the medium. However, he’s also a cinema connoisseur. So, it was only a matter of time before he got around to sharing a hot take the internet wouldn’t be able to handle.

According to Far Out Magazine, Quentin told an audience that he prefers Richard Franklin’s Psycho II over Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. This earth-shattering revelation came up during the Tarantino Film Festival in 2005. Tarantino explained:

“I’ve always been a big fan of Psycho II and a huge fan of the director, Richard Franklin, who did Road Games and Patrick  before this. Those films are why Universal brought him over to do Psycho II, which was a very big deal.” He added, “Also, I feel that Psycho II has the very best performance by Anthony Perkins of all time. I completely care about Norman Bates in this thing, and that’s fucked up.” – Tarantino Film Festival in 2005 via Far Out Magazine

Have you managed to pick your jaw up off the floor after that revelation? If so, please allow me to give a brief refresher on this sequel that Quentin Tarantino feels is better than the original.

Rotten Tomatoes Synopsis

“Two decades after the original murders at the Bates Motel, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) completes his treatment at a mental institution and returns home to find his hotel run down under the management of Warren Toomey (Dennis Franz). Despite a new friendship with a waitress (Meg Tilly) and a job busing tables at a diner, Norman begins to hear voices once again. No matter how hard he tries, Norman cannot keep “Mother” from returning and coaxing him to unleash the homicidal maniac within.”

Psycho II was directed by Richard Franklin. It was written by Tom Holland. The script was based on characters created by Robert Bloch. It premiered in 1983, 22 years after the original film was released.
