The Directors of ‘Satanic Hispanics’ Want You To See Their Film In Theaters

Latinos are some of the biggest fans of horror. Yet few (if any) of the horror movies we grew up with feature Latino characters, or plots, or any elements in their DNA. Satanic Hispanics was born out of the idea to change that.
Latinos are not a monolithic block. We come from various countries, and our cultures are diverse. But the things we
have in common outweigh our differences.
Latin America is full of horrifying lore. From creatures like the Chupacabra to giant snakes, our monsters are the representations of the horrors we’ve endured.
But it’s not just fictional monsters that haunt us. Our everyday lives are filled with real-life horrors that put those legends to shame.
We envisioned a movie showcasing our diversity, both behind and in front of the camera—directed by Latinos, starring
Latinos. We wanted to have first-generation Americans, immigrants, some of whom still lived in Latin America. Our goal was to highlight our legends and stories, to blend horror with social commentary, and to confront our demons or laugh at
our problems.
More importantly, to take back the reigns of our own narrative and reclaim the space in horror that has largely been
denied to us.
In times where our industry is finally opening to diversity, it’s crucial for us to be present both behind and in front of the
camera.
The only way we get to see our stories on the screen is if we make it happen ourselves, and the only way we can stay
there is with your support. If we don’t stand up for our tales, our legends, and our truths, no one will. Representation is
a battle we only win if we fight together.

La audiencia latina es una de las más grandes del cine de terror. Sin embargo, pocas (si acaso alguna) de las películas de
terror con las que crecimos presentan personajes, tramas, o cualquier elemento latino en su esencia.
Satanic Hispanics nació de la idea de cambiar eso.
Los latinos no somos un bloque monolítico. Venimos de diversos países y nuestras culturas son variadas. Pero lo que
tenemos en común supera nuestras diferencias.
Latinoamérica está llena de relatos aterradores. Desde criaturas como el Chupacabra hasta serpientes gigantes, nuestros
monstruos son la representación de los horrores que hemos soportado.
Pero no son solo monstruos ficticios los que nos atormentan. Nuestra vida diaria está llena de horrores reales que dejan
en ridículo a esas leyendas.
Queríamos hacer una película que mostrara nuestra diversidad, tanto detrás como delante de la cámara, dirigida por
latinos y protagonizada por latinos. Queríamos tener a estadounidenses de primera generación, inmigrantes, algunos
que todavía vivieran en Latinoamérica. Nuestro objetivo era resaltar nuestras leyendas e historias, mezclar el terror con
el comentario social y confrontar nuestros demonios o reírnos de nuestros problems.
Más importante aún, retomar las riendas de nuestra propia narrativa y reclamar el espacio en el terror que se nos ha
negado.
En tiempos donde nuestra industria finalmente se está abriendo a la diversidad, es crucial para nosotros estar presentes
tanto detrás como delante de la cámara.
La única manera de ver nuestras historias en la pantalla es si lo hacemos realidad nosotros mismos, y la única forma de
permanecer allí es con su apoyo. Si no defendemos nuestros cuentos, nuestras leyendas y nuestras verdades, nadie lo
hará. La representación es una batalla que solo ganamos si luchamos juntos.
