The 10 Highest-Earning Horror Movies Of 2023 So Far And What They Made

2023 has been a great year for horror movies at the box office. We’ve had an endless stream of hits and long-awaited titles constantly attacking our wallets. This is why we got a little curious about which ones have brought in the most money so far. Luckily, our friends at Box Office Mojo made it easy to find the ten highest-grossing horror movies of 2023.

10 – Knock at the Cabin

World Wide Total: $54,760,947

This epic tale is based on The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. It follows a family on vacation that gets taken hostage and forced to make a hard choice to avoid an apocalypse. Few things are stronger than the hold Dave Bautista has over our wallets. This movie was no exception because it made over fifty-four million before moving to streaming.

9 – Haunted Mansion

World Wide Total: $60,283,218 (so far)

A woman hires experts to get rid of the ghosts in her home. I was very surprised to see this title on the list because it has not been in theaters for two weeks yet. However, summer is the best time for a PG-13 horror movie to find its crowd after all.

8 – 65

World Wide Total: $60,730,568

A pilot discovers he has traveled 65 million years into the past. This Adam Driver sci-fi adventure was the unhinged movie we all needed this March. I’m happy it made a larger dent at the box office than I expected.

7 – The Boogeyman

World Wide Total: $66,992,671

A family in mourning becomes the next target of an evil entity that feeds on the suffering of its victims. This long-awaited Stephen King adaptation seems to have struck a chord with many filmgoers. Coming in at 7th place is nothing to sneeze at when the competition is this stiff.

6 – The Pope’s Exorcist

World Wide Total: $76,160,110

This movie follows a priest who sent 100,000 demons back to hell. It’s supposedly based on the real life of Gabriele Amorth. Russell Crowe plays the late priest, and photos of him in costume riding around on a scooter brought us all so much joy.

5 – Cocaine Bear

World Wide Total: $87,649,532

A black bear consumes cocaine and becomes a problem for a Georgia forest. This silly all-star cast movie convinced us to go to the theater at least once. It also seems to have kicked off a trend of movies about predators on coke that we might never see the end of.

4 – Meg 2: The Trench

World Wide Total: $145,702,735 (so far)

A research team finds themselves in a chaotic battle with underwater predators. This movie came out last week, so it’s wild that it’s already brought in almost 150 million dollars. However, many of you were excited to see Jason Statham continue fighting this megalodon, so we should’ve seen it coming.

3 – Evil Dead Rise

World Wide Total: $146,733,054

A family falls victim to flesh-possessing demons. Evil Dead is always a moment, but this one hit hard and different. I predict it will be fighting for top spots on many of the end-of-year lists. So it makes sense that it is the third highest-grossing horror movie of the year so far.

2 – Scream VI

World Wide Total: $168,961,389

Ghostface follows the Core Four to New York and disrupts their plans to move on with their lives. I lived my best life watching this movie and am so happy it broke franchise records and ended up in the second spot. It’s even more special because it’s looking like the last one with Radio Silence at the helm for the foreseeable future.

1 – Insidious: The Red Door

World Wide Total: $182,412,371

These demons are not done with the Lamberts quite yet. This long-awaited sequel was directed by franchise star Patrick Wilson and immediately left the competition in the dust when it premiered. It is definitely the box office record to beat this year, and we love to see it!
