The Oscar-Winning Thriller Stephen King Calls “Suspensful” and “Terrifying” Is Now Streaming On Max

Stephen King loves a thriller more than most things in this world. So, it’s unsurprising that he would list some when discussing his favorite movies. In an Entertainment Weekly end-of-year list written by King himself, he highlighted a few 2009 gems. However, his #1 movie at that time was The Hurt Locker. 

King explained it was his number one pick because, “Bomb disposal is one of the great staples of war movies, but it has never been depicted in such terrifying detail as it is here. Locker is more than suspenseful, however. Director Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break), who has explored the destructive impulses of young men before, outdoes herself in this perfectly honed drama .

“Staff Sgt. William James (Jeremy Renner), Sgt. J.T. Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) and Specialist Owen Eldridge (Brian Geraghty) are members of a bomb-disposal unit in Baghdad. As their tour of duty enters its final weeks, the men face a set of increasingly hazardous situations, any of which could end their lives in an explosive instant.”

The Hurt Locker was directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It was written by Mark Boal. The cast includes Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Guy Pearce, and David Morse.
