Media companies are using AI to write articles, it’s been used to create art, the list goes on. But what happens as that technology grows and potentially gains sentience? In his new film The Artifice Girl, director Franklin Ritch imagines a specific future for AI, where it’s used to catch sexual predators.

A team of special agents discovers a revolutionary new computer program to bait and trap online predators. After teaming up with the program’s troubled developer, they soon find that the AI is rapidly advancing beyond its original purpose.
After the film’s world premiere at the 2022 Fantasia Film Festival, Dread Central spoke with Ritch and fellow cast members Sinda Nichols, Tatum Matthews, and David Girard about tackling sensitive subject matter, the future of AI, and more.
