‘Dead Ringers’ Actor Poppy Liu On Shaping Her Mysterious Character
In stretching a feature film into a series, there are inevitably going to be a few additions to the cast to expand the story. Such is the case in Alice Birch’s adaptation of Dead Ringers, which hits Prime Video this Friday. With Birch’s take on Cronenberg, she expands the world of the Mantle twins into a cold world full of cutthroat, and sometimes caring, women.
In a scene-stealing role, Poppy Liu plays Greta, the eccentric assistant and housekeeper to the Mantle twins. Dressed immaculately in outfits that belong on runways or at the very least at Brooklyn art shows, Liu floats across the screen, creating her own alluring atmosphere that rivals Weisz’s, which is an impressive feat. Her character’s arc is quiet, but fascinating as we try to decipher her own motivations.
