The #1 Horror Film On Netflix Is Out-Of-This-World Terrifying: “It’s every bit as creepy as the original”

The #1 horror movie on the Netflix charts this week is an unexpected but welcome surprise. The film hit the streamer this weekend and immediately burned its way up the charts. Our new queen is The Thing (2011).

In the film, at an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson.

Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. directed the 2011 version of The Thing with a script by Eric Heisserer. The movie stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen, Kristofer Hivju, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Eric Christian Olsen.

Van Heijningen Jr.’s film is a prequel to John Carpenter’s iconic 1982 film of the same name. Carpenter’s film stars Kurt Russell and Keith David. Both films are based on the 1938 novella Who Goes There? written by John W. Campbell Jr.

Many Netflix viewers hit play thinking it was the John Carpenter version but ended up having a great time anyway. It seems the paranoia, gore, and creepy monsters are still scaring people in this version of the story.

Because we love this universe, we are happy to see this prequel is finding new fans. Here is hoping it has a very nice stay on the Netflix charts this month.
