The Best Horror Movies Streaming Now on Paramount+

Last updated: April 4, 2024

Paramount+ is taking a more subdued approach to horror this April than other streamers. While they have a movie I love and a few I’d like to see again, there is a noticeable lack of genre titles coming to the platform this month. This stands out because if you add Showtime to your subscription, you can watch Talk To Me starting April 1. That was one of my favorite movies of last year, so I am jealous of everyone who has access to it. However, I can make my scary movie night out of what is available on Paramount+ alongside all the other poor kids. After all, some cool titles are being added to the library. The app is giving us some action this month by way of Face/Off, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Total Recall

I found five titles I’m excited to revisit, or at least tell my friends to check out below.

Identity

A group of strangers find themselves stranded at a Nevada motel during a rainstorm and must figure out who is killing them one by one. Identity is my favorite movie John Cusack has ever done, and I have been telling everyone to watch it for years. I’ve been obsessed with this film since I was a baby and still think it is cinema. We see a lot of horror set in seedy motels, but very few of them turn out to be as cool as this one. I cannot wait to see it on Paramount+ a few times this month.

Life

A team of scientists stumble across a life form that devastated Mars and has its sights set on Earth next. I don’t know if it’s because my friend Xero Gravity brought this movie to my attention. Or maybe it’s because I just watched the new Road House film and want more Jake Gyllenhaal chaos. All I know is I need to check this movie out while it’s on Paramount+. The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, so this will hopefully help me fill the void I have while waiting on the second season of Silo.

Mimic

An entomologist created an insect to kill virus-carrying cockroaches, but now those insects pose a larger threat to the human race. I watched this movie as a child and still remember the man-sized bugs. There’s one scene specifically that is burned into my brain. The lead asks a man in a trench coat for the time, and when he turns around, she realizes it’s a huge ass bug. While I love Mira Sorvino and Charles S. Dutton, I’m not metal enough to revisit this one. However, I’m about to tell all my friends to watch because sharing is caring, right?

The Ring 2 (Unrated)

New clues point towards a new evil entity six months after the events of the first movie. I’m usually the first to yell, “Stop remaking international horror, America!” I’m also typically a hater of sequels and franchises. However, if watching horror has taught me anything, it’s that I should always watch the unrated version. So, that is what I plan to do this month, and I’m glad Paramount+ gets me. If nothing else, Sissy Spacek is in the cast, so that’s already a giant W in the win column for every version of the film.

The Uninvited

A woman returns home from a psychiatric hospital to find her recovery threatened by visions of her dead mom and her dad’s new girlfriend. While The Uninvited isn’t as good as the movie it’s inspired by, A Tale Of Two Sisters, I don’t hate it. This Emily Browning and Elizabeth Banks-led effort was the first time I saw David Strathairn in my favorite genre. So, maybe I’m way too easy on it. Or maybe it’s 2000s nostalgia beating my ass. Either way, you know where to find me.
