‘Nanny’ Director Nikyatu Jusu On The Importance of Storytelling [Watch]
With the release of her short film Suicide By Sunlight, director and writer Nikyatu Jusu put herself on the map as a rising voice in horror. Now, her debut feature film Nanny is hitting theaters and Prime Video. It’s an unmissable piece of horror about displacement and yearning for family from a perspective that’s often missing in the genre.
In Nanny:
Aisha is an undocumented nanny working for a privileged couple in New York City. As she prepares for the arrival of the son she left behind in West Africa, a violent presence invades her reality, threatening the American dream she is painstakingly piecing together.
Jusu wrote and directed Nanny, which stars Anna Diop, Michelle Monaghan, and Sinqua Walls.
Dread Central spoke with Jusu about her feature film debut, the importance of storytelling, and her experience with the world of academia.
