Horror Director Mike Flanagan Says This “Disturbing” New Movie Has Invented the “MegaSlasher”

Since its release in theaters just a month ago, Terrifier 2 has proven the power of indie horror filmmaking. It’s made over $10 million at the box office, and now it’s heading to digital for an even larger audience to experience the demented terrors of Art the Clown. This sequel has grabbed the attention of many a horror icon, including Stephen King. Now, Mike Flanagan has shared his feelings about the new film.

Spoiler alert: he’s a huge fan.

Flanagan took to Twitter to share his brief thoughts on Terrifier 2, written and directed by Damien Leone. He sang its praises, calling it “ambitious and deeply disturbing”. He also went on to say the film has created a new subgenre: the MegaSlasher. That’s high praise from the man who has helped shape the contemporary horror landscape.

In Terrifier 2, Art the Clown returns with a bloody vengeance. He’s resurrected after the horrors of the first film and sets his sights on young woman Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and her younger brother. Another murder spree begins, and it is even more brutal than what we saw in the first film.

Flanagan also gave LaVera a shout-out, calling her performance “quite terrific”. And, of course, David Howard Thornton gets accolades for his performance as the devious Art the Clown.
