‘Smile’ Director Parker Finn On Tackling Difficult Subject Matter

While the marketing may make Smile look like a fun, surface-level horror movie perfect for a Friday night viewing experience, it’s much darker than that. Under the smiling gimmick and use of jump scares is a film that’s interested in further interrogating mental health and trauma. That fact in and of itself is more shocking than any jump scare. And director Parker Finn knew exactly what he was doing.
