Everything We Know So Far About ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’

A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place premiered in 2018 and proved to be a massive success, grossing over $340 million at the global box office. The first installment was followed by A Quiet Place: Part II, which also killed, raking in just shy of $300 million. With numbers like that, it’s no surprise that Paramount is already in development on another series entry.

A Quiet Place (co-written and directed by John Krasinski) follows the Abbot family, who exist in a dystopian world where creatures that hunt by sound roam the landscape and attack and kill anything that makes noise. The Abbots have managed to adapt to a day-to-day existence that revolves around non-verbal communication. But danger is always on the horizon and survival is never guaranteed.

The next planned series installment is a prequel to the first two films. The story details are being closely guarded at this juncture, with the IMDB synopsis simply reading: “Plot under wraps.” We have, however, managed to piece together a few tidbits of information to satiate your appetite for all things A Quiet Place. So, please silence your notifications and get ready to tiptoe through the tulips because we’re about to hit you with everything we know so far about A Quiet Place: Day One.

This upcoming threequel will serve as a prequel to the first two films

As the name implies, this latest film will take place at the onset of the invasion that is well underway (save for a handful of flashback sequences) in the first and second franchise installments.

A Quiet Place: Day One will follow a new cast of characters and will unfold in a different locale than the two previous efforts

The first two films in the series follow the Abbot family, as portrayed by Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds. However, the upcoming prequel is expected to center around a new cast of characters and will presumably unfold on the day malevolent, sound-sensing creatures arrive on the scene.

John Krasinski will not be back to direct

The helmer of the first two installments will be on board to produce the upcoming spinoff but he is not expected to be on the casting roster. Though Krasinski isn’t at the helm this time around, the film is based on an original idea he brought to the table. Michael Sarnoski (Pig) is on board to direct Day One. He replaced Mud director, Jeff Nichols, who left the production to focus on a different project

Don’t hold your breath for a release date

The spinoff effort was originally slated to premiere on September 22, 2023. However, Paramount has shuffled their release schedule around and in doing so, pushed the third series installment back several months, which sees the project poised (as of publication) for a March 12, 2024 release date.

Day One isn’t the only A Quiet Place Project in the works right now

If the news that the prequel will follow a new cast of characters has you sporting a frown, fret not. A separate project, called A Quiet Place: Part III, is also in development at Paramount. While details about that project are also being kept under wraps, there are speculations that the sequel will follow the Abbot family. It is slated for release at some point in 2025. This effort is expected to serve as a direct sequel to A Quiet Place: Part II
