William Brent Bell Wants To Make Another ‘Stay Alive’
In 2006, iconic video game horror film Stay Alive was released. Say what you will about the film, but for this writer, it was top-notch early 00s horror. The film has garnered a small, but mighty, fanbase since its release who sing the praises of the most 2006 movie to ever exist. Yes, I am referencing Frankie Muniz’s strange visor, specifically. Now, in an interview with Dread Central about his latest film Orphan: First Kill, Bell revealed that he’s trying hard to make another Stay Alive film.
Stay Alive follows a group of friends who frequently game together. But, when one of their posé dies under mysterious circumstances, Hutch (Jon Foster) begins to suspect something strange is afoot. They discover that their friend played a cursed video game where if you die in the game, you die in real life. The game focuses on real-life serial killer Elizabeth Bathory who killed virgins and bathed in their blood. The film was a who’s-who of early aughts talent, especially a goth Sophia Bush who I wanted to be and be with simultaneously.
Bathory is the perfect horror game villain, which is why we need another Stay Alive. In the unrated extended version of the film, Alice Krige plays the Author, who explicitly provided the context for Bathory’s sinister intentions. Krige is an incredible actor, and she would chew up even more scenery if given the chance.
