Disturbing Found Footage Film ‘The Miranda Murders: Lost Tapes of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng’ Re-Release In The Works

The Miranda Murders

The filmmakers of the independent true crime film The Miranda Murders: Lost Tapes of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng, are in the works to re-release their awardwinning feature after a four-year run on Amazon Prime.

The Miranda Murders depicts the “lost tapes” captured by Northern California serial killers, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng between December 1983 and June 1985. The film depicts the horrendous scenes between Lake, Ng, and their victims.

To honor the victims who lost their lives at the hands of the real-life Lake and Ng, 100% of the film’s profits from the past four years have gone to such charities as RAINN, March of Dimes, and The Heifer Foundation. For the re-release, all profits for The Miranda Murders will be donated to the Nevada-based charity, Three Square. Three Square’s mission is to provide nutritious dietary options to feed hungry children, seniors, and families. Check out more about the organization and how you can support their efforts on their website.

Director Matt Rosvally said of the film:

“The main purpose of creating this film was to explore the idea of discussing and approaching controversial and fourth wall breaking content in a manner that makes one question what is real and what isn’t.  The crimes of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng were some of America’s most disturbing real-life horror stories to ever take place in our recent history.  And yet, the average individual isn’t particularly familiar with this case. It’s been heavily overshadowed by some of the more infamous serial killers out there such as John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer.

We wanted to explore the visual medium by creating something that was presented as a genuine curiosity that left people feeling both intrigued and uncomfortable, like the feeling one gets when watching a video of a real-life car accident or a modern-day dark web video (with ambiguity of reality and story being fairly prominent, much like a real snuff film). The Faces of Death franchise and Cannibal Holocaust are examples of well-executed productions that managed to accomplish this goal.

The Miranda Murders is a menagerie of the ugliest humanity has to offer. It focuses on keeping the circumstances on camera as realistic, down to earth, and accurate as possible to the actual footage caught by the real-life killers. The subject matter is triggering and does involve such topics as kidnapping, murder, rape, and sexual trafficking.  To honor the victims of these horrible crimes, we’ve been donating all of our profits to charities. We will continue to do so once re-released. This movie is in no way meant for everyone, and should be watched at every viewer’s discretion.”
