10 of The Scariest Found Footage Movies Streaming on Tubi

found footage

There is a lot of found footage out there. And the best place to find it, in my humble opinion, is Tubi. They have a massive catalog of found footage alone that is daunting, to say the least. So, to help you start chipping away at the collection, I’ve compiled a list of 10 of the scariest found footage films on the streamer.

Howard’s Mill

This pseudo-documentary subtly gets into your head. After the disappearance of his fiancee, a man hires a documentary crew to help him find the truth. As they dig deeper into the property where she disappeared, they discover something that leans into cosmic horror.

Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo is one of the scariest and saddest horror movies of all time. The pseudo-documentary follows a family after the tragic death of their daughter Alice. What unfolds is a deeply melancholy ghost story that’s dread slowly creeps in like tendrils of smoke.

Deadware

Isaac Rodriguez’s second screen horror Deadware takes us back to the early days of the internet. Late-90s interfaces help tell the story of two friends who use their webcams for the first time and discover a video game from hell.

In A Stranger’s House

Director Richard Waters made this found footage film by himself. He plays a man housesitting for the weekend after he responds to an online ad. As the days pass, creepy dolls start moving on their own and something seems to be watching him.

Crone Wood

If you like folk horror, witches, and creepy masks, then Crone Wood is right up your alley. The film follows a couple who go camping in Crone Wood on their first date (strange choice, I know). But the legends about the woods prove true as they’re captured by a coven of witches. Crone Wood plays with who’s holding the camera and the predatory gaze in a way I’ve never seen before in the subgenre.

Butterfly Kisses

Butterfly Kisses is both found footage and pseudo-documentary, combining footage from missing college students with the story of a failing filmmaker trying to solve their disappearance. The stories between footage grow closer together as both the students and the filmmaker learn about Peeping Tom.

Savageland

found footage

Savageland is an unconventional found footage film because it’s not based on video footage, but on a series of photographs. The film is framed as a pseudo-documentary about a man accused of massacring an entire town. But, after his photographers of that night are discovered, they reveal a much more horrific tale.

Final Prayer

I recently wrote about this film because of its disturbing ending. But more than just its ending, Final Prayer is a subtle and effective folk horror disguised as a possession film. When a priest and a tech guy from the Vatican go to investigate a reported miracle, strange happenings start to convince them that perhaps this isn’t an act of God.

Capture Kill Release

Capture Kill Release

This dark found footage gem isn’t for the faint of heart. It documents a couple who are plotting to murder a stranger for fun. Not only is there a lot of blood, but it’s also a disturbing look into a toxic relationship between two very sick people.

The Blackwell Ghost

The Blackwell Ghost series is the epitome of low-budget found footage films that just get it. It’s just one guy trying to prove the existence of ghosts. But he gets more than he bargained for when he stays in an actual haunted house. Tubi only has the first film, but there are five in total.
