Around here we’ve always considered the R.L. Stine Goosebumps books akin to horror training wheels. You gotta bring the young pups up right, ya know? And now kids everywhere will be able to enjoy these wonderful tales in a whole new way!
Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is negotiating with Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens, Shark Tale, Gulliver’s Travels) to helm Goosebumps, a feature film based on the R.L. Stine young adult fright book series.
Goosebumps will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, and Sony Pictures is making the film with Scholastic Entertainment.
The Goosebumps series — which comprises more than 50 books that often pay homage to classic sci-fi/horror movies such as Night of the Living Dead and Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as the twist endings of “The Twilight Zone” — have grossed hundreds of millions for Stine and Scholastic, second only to the Harry Potter series. Stine recently published a new 12-book series, Goosebumps in HorrorLand, and Scholastic plans to launch a video game in the fall.
