At the first-ever CineMayhem Film Fest this past weekend, the trailer for indie filmmaker Michael Ling’s upcoming short film Edward Lee’s The Bighead premiered on the silver screen before the final film of the fest, Resolution.

Now we’ve got the trailer right here on Dread Central to share with you fiends exclusively!

Based on Edward Lee’s seminal and wildly controversial 2003 novel “Edward Lee’s The Bighead,” this harrowing tale is set in the West Virginian backwoods where vicious monsters, both human and supernatural, go on a terrifying rampage in search of a special young woman. Their path of destruction uncovers long held secrets and puts the fate of the entire world in jeopardy.

The short film stars Raquel Cantu as the untamable sexpot Jerrica, Carrie Malabre as the shy Charity, Orson Chaplin as the demented psychopath Tritt “Balls” Connor, and Lance Trezona as Tritt’s dim-witted accomplice Dicky. Also starring are Ashley Totin as the prostitute Rosie, Michael Coons as conflicted priest Father Tom, P.D. Miller as the bartender Frank and Kelsey Tipton as The Bighead’s first victim, Wendy. The frightening Bighead monster itself is played by Cheetah Platt.

Award-winning director of photography Fady Hadid shot the film from writer/director Michael Ling’s script. Geoff Skinner and Donald Wygal, Jr., produced.

Edward Lee’s The Bighead will premiere in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 7:00 PM at the Acme Theater in Hollywood (135 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90036). Check out the exclusive online debut of the trailer below, and keep your eyes peeled on the short film’s Facebook page for news on upcoming screenings and more.

First Look: DOWN A DARK HALL Starring AnnaSophia Robb, Isabelle Fuhrman and Uma Thurman

Published

on

I know this might sound strange, but one of the movies I’m most looking forward to is the upcoming adaptation of Lois Duncan’s Down a Dark Hall. It sounds like a teen-friendly version of Dario Argento’s Suspiria and I have a special place in my horror heart for the works of Lois Duncan (I Know What You Did Last Summer).

On top of that, the film is directed by Rodrigo Cortés (Red Lights, Buried) and stars Anna Sophia Robb (The Reaping), Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan), Taylor Russell (Netflix’s Lost in Space), and Uma Thurman. That’s one hell of a creative team behind the scenes!

And today we have your first look at the film via a behind-the-scenes still of director Rodrigo Cortés talking with Uma Thurman. The image seems to have come from a Spanish magazine and you can check out a screenshot below.

Not only that, but word via the MPAA is that the flick has earned a PG-13 rating for “for mature thematic content, terror and violence, some language including a sexual reference, and smoking.” There is currently no word on when the film will be released. Come on, Hollywood. Let us know!

Are you excited to check out this film? Make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Synopsis:

Based on Lois Duncan’s 1974 YA novel of the same name, the supernatural mystery centers on a troubled teen with a haunted past who is committed to Blackwood, a mysterious school for gifted and disturbed girls. Silver plays Jules Duret, the son of Madame Duret, the music professor at the school.

Email your answer to contests@dreadcentral.com including your FULL NAME AND MAILING ADDRESS along with “Winchester Competition” in your subject line, and we’ll take care of the rest. The competition closes on May 28, and please don’t enter if you live outside the UK.

Winchester was directed by the Spierig Brothers, and was co-distributed by Lionsgate and CBS Films. It stars Academy Award winner Helen Mirren alongside Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook, Finn Scicluna-O’Prey, and Angus Sampson.

Winchester Official Synopsis
On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren), the eccentric firearm heiress to the Winchester Repeating Arms fortune, it is a house that knows no end.

Renowned for its enormous size, its architectural curiosities, and its lack of any master building plan, the Winchester house was constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades. It stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms with numerous oddities. To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the brilliant Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters.
