‘Child’s Play’ Creator Don Mancini Has Envisioned ‘Chucky’ in Space
Child’s Play creator Don Mancini believes that a key to his killer doll Chucky’s sustained success is his versatility.
We’ve witnessed the “good guy” terrorize a military academy, transfer his former girlfriend’s soul into a doll to become his bride, and even commandeer his own cult through supernatural means.
Would it really be surprising, then, if we one day saw him blast off into space?
“I don’t think, ‘[O]h, Chucky couldn’t possibly go there,” Mancini said in a new interview with Comicbook. “We’ve found that he operates successfully in all kinds of different tones and subgenres, whether it’s horror, comedy, or places in between. He’s versatile, appealing, and interesting enough that he could probably go anywhere… even into outer space.”
Mancini says that he has, in fact, floated the “Chucky in Space” concept to some of his peers before. He makes clear that he did so in jest, but also adds: “Although, I do think it would be a fun movie.”
“I think ‘X Goes to Space’ is usually a barometer for jumping the shark,” Mancini continues. “But I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Chucky in a little spacesuit with a helmet, sort of, like, floating?”

As we inch closer to space tourism becoming a tangible reality, the premise is more credible than it’s ever been. Perhaps some egomaniacal investors with too much time on their hands jump into Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk’s space race, and Chucky somehow sneaks aboard their shuttle to start a new cosmic killing spree.
