These McDonald’s Halloween Ads Will Make You Both Scared And Hungry

You always know that spooky season is around the corner when the big guns start to get involved. I’m talking advertisers. When TV spots start to get autumnal, Halloween is drawing near. Maybe it’s a little dystopian, but nothing gets me into the Halloween spirit quite like a spooky marketing campaign. And no one knows marketing quite like McDonald’s.
If you’re a horror fan, then you’ve got absolutely no choice but to stan these incredibly genius McDonald’s ads featuring everyone’s favorite holiday, designed by the DDB agency in 2018. These guys are known for their slick and successful print ads you’ve likely seen on the bus or in the grocery store. This year, they’ve gone viral with their 2018 series of McDonald’s advertisements celebrating Halloween.
There’s just something about the minimalism that makes these seasonal ads so effective. The spooky symbolism is subtle, but it won’t be long before Halloween freaks spot exactly what’s going on within their borders.
We’ve got to thank the relentless sleuths of Reddit for discovering this wild campaign. The vampire-themed fry poster recently climbed its way to the very top of the Reddit Design Porn page, accumulating a total of 7,000 upvotes. That’s a lot for a poster selling us french fries.
The series consists of three spooky ads for the fast-food joint. The first was the aforementioned vampire french fry sheet—which is genius, I’d hang it up on my wall. (Maybe I’m just hungry, though.) Another design features the ooey-gooey melted cheese of a classic McDonald’s hamburger. But, twist: There’s a spooky ghost face dripping down. The last poster from the series is an evil, blood-red sundae that doesn’t look like it necessarily has the world’s best intentions.
