Another bit of casting news has come in for Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, the horror flick How to Catch a Monster, as one of the finest exports from across the pond has signed on to face off against an altogether different beast.
Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) will be the film’s male lead, and he joins the previously announced Eva Mendes, Rob Zabrecky, Ben Mendelsohn, and Christina Hendricks.
The film is set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city where Billy (Hendricks), a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. She must dive deep into the mystery, if the family is to survive.
How to Catch a Monster will be produced by Marc Platt Productions, which worked on Gosling’s 2011 crime thriller Drive. In a statement Platt called the actor’s latest project a “beautifully haunting script,” adding that Gosling’s “ability to draw audiences into his world as an actor will serve him well as a filmmaker.”
